Open PopupDocs

Quickstart

Your first popup, live on your site, in about five minutes.

This assumes your agent is already connected. If it isn’t, do Agent setup first.

Ask for a popup

Describe it the way you would to a colleague:

a newsletter signup with an email field, after 10 seconds

Your agent will create a site for you if you don’t have one yet, start from the closest template, write the popup and check it. You get back a builder link and a script tag.

Save the builder link somewhere. The part after the # is the key to edit that popup, and it’s only shown once.

Look at it and adjust

Open the builder link. You’ll see the popup as your visitors will. Change the wording, add a field, move it to the corner, whatever you like. Or just tell your agent what to change.

Publish

Press Publish in the builder, or ask your agent to publish it. Every publish creates a new version, and your site picks up the latest one on the next page load.

Add the script to your site

Paste the script tag your agent gave you just before </body>. It looks like this, with your own site key:

<script async src="https://app.openpopup.ai/e.js" data-site="<site_key>"></script>

You only do this once per site. Popups you make later use the same tag. See Install the script for where it goes on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and others.

Check it

Open any page of your site with ?op-preview=<popup id> on the end of its address. The popup shows at once, even if your browser has seen it before, and the visit isn’t counted. Your agent hands you this link when it publishes, and the builder has it under the arrow beside Publish as Preview on your site.

To see it the way a visitor would, with its trigger and rules, use a private window: your regular browser remembers that it has seen the popup.

Still nothing? Add ?op-debug=1 to the address. A panel lists each popup on the site and the rule that’s keeping it closed. Or ask your agent to run popup-audit, which goes through the usual reasons one by one. Test and debug on your site covers both.
